Membership Requirements for Our Freedom

Membership in Our Freedom: A Pagan Civil Rights Coalition, is intended for those in leadership positions of national Pagan organizations/publications. It is also open to individuals with an established history of service to the national Pagan movement. Applicants should have experience with leadership, media relations, and organization in the national sphere.

Our Freedom offers two types of membership:
"Full membership" includes OF e-mail list membership and signatory affiliation. Membership on the OurFreedom list is restricted to one representative per organization/publication, with exceptions at the moderators' discretion. Full members are be rotated off the list when they move out of leadership positions with organizations in order to make room for their successors. They may re-apply to the list as individuals.

"Signatory membership" is for those who want to co-sign on projects but prefer not to be added to the OF e-mail list. Signatory members do not participate in the drafting of projects and only have the option to sign or not sign the final draft of any joint project.

Membership in the Our Freedom coalition confers the right to propose, support, and co-sign any efforts taken by the Coalition. Members may decline to support particular projects for whatever reason. Please see the How We Work section for further information on joint projects.

Applicants can be blocked by any member of the Coalition for the following reasons:

• Applicant has engaged in violent criminal activity with a victim (murder, rape, assault, armed robbery, child abuse or pederasty that has been confirmed by a court, spousal abuse that has been confirmed by a court, violent acts against animals that have been confirmed by a court)
• Applicant has performed acts of dishonor (cheating someone, stealing from a person or an organization, slandering someone in a very public way, stealing from other people's books or web pages or postings on the Internet and reprinting them without attribution)
• Applicant has demonstrated an inability to work collaboratively with others or is a known antagonist in the Pagan community

Full or Signatory membership may also be denied if the OF list or coalition is going through organizational changes, decides to sets limits on the number of members it will take on, or for any other administrative reason. In some of these cases, denied applicants may encouraged to apply again at a later date.

Our goal is always to create an effective working coalition, not necessarily to create a massive e-mail list. We will do what is necessary to be successful, with our goal being broad and fair participation.
